This installation “GIVING TREES: An Urban Reforestation Project,” sets out to explore the relationship between art and what Lewis Hyde describes as the “gift economy.” Each of the dollar bills is the canvas upon which an original work of art has been painted. Viewers are invited to exchange a dollar bill in their pocket for one of the dollar bills on the wall. The art is the gift.
