The POD SERIES arose from an encounter with a specimen sitting in a dark corner at the Field Museum in Chicago. Hanging from the top of the case was a white form so oddly lit that it seemed to glow. With no tag, it was impossible to determine if it was produced by man, nature or animal. A seed pod? A nest? An animal trap? A primitive storage basket? The white, glowing object seemingly suspended in air….it haunted me for a year until I revisited the museum to satisfy my curiosity. I was assured by museum personnel that no case like that had ever existed. These paintings are an ode to that stunning, haunting, illumined object, and all of the beautiful wonderous mystifying moments encountered in nature.
